FOREVER CLASS FIELD GUIDE
The Hunter, revisited.
Beast Mastery, Marksmanship and Survival offer pet, ranged, trap and melee choices. Blizzard’s preview also describes options without a pet.
Returning-player checklist
- Read your current abilities and visit a trainer before planning around an old rotation.
- Choose a tree for the activity and role you enjoy. A levelling plan need not be a raid plan.
- Inspect prerequisite talents and point gates; unfamiliar combinations may be invalid.
- Review equipment stats in the current client rather than copying a Vanilla best-in-slot list.
What has changed?
Pets, shots and traps remain central, but familiar cooldown relationships and pet assumptions need a fresh look.
Aimed Shot and shared cooldowns
Aimed Shot becomes baseline at level 20. It separates from Arcane Shot's cooldown and instead shares one with Multi-Shot.

Traps during combat
Traps can be placed in combat with a 30-second cooldown. Fire and frost trap groups have separate cooldowns.

Pets and family identity
Pets scale from Hunter equipment and gain unique family abilities. Foxes join the pet families.

How we compare versions
Official class articles describe changes from original WoW. The maintained comparison database uses Classic Era 1.15.9.70003, with Season of Discovery-era tuning, rather than an untouched Vanilla client. Database-only differences below are labelled accordingly. Abilities beyond level 30 are future planning, outside the current beta cap.
Get familiar with your trees
Beast Mastery
Compare Summon Hawk, Intimidation and Bestial Wrath. Check both your talent allocation and pet-family ability before planning utility.
Marksmanship
Lone Wolf increases attack damage while no pet is active. Sniper Shot modifies the range of subsequent shots. These are situational mechanics, not a recommendation to dismiss your pet.
Survival
Deterrence, Counterattack, Strider Kick and Lacerating Strikes create a different set of decisions from a shot-only plan. Inspect each ability before committing points.
Returning from Vanilla or Classic
Update your shot binds for the new shared cooldown. Test traps in combat and review family abilities before choosing a pet purely from an old damage ranking.
Coming from Retail
Check Forever's mana resource and its own pet rules. Familiar talent names do not establish a Retail build or rotation; use this version's current ability ranks and tree gates.
Try this before your first group
- Observe which shots share a cooldown.
- Use a combat trap on a manageable enemy.
- Read your pet's family ability and compare it with your intended activity.
