RETAIL TO FOREVER
Coming from Retail? Begin again.
A transition guide for players moving from modern WoW to Forever. All advice on this site is for Forever; this page explains the habits and expectations to rethink.
What is different?
| System | What you may remember | Forever beta |
|---|---|---|
| Character journey | Modern expansion progression | Level-60 foundation in original Azeroth |
| Talent build | Your modern class tree | Forever’s own three-tree point system |
| Talent changes | Your familiar Retail workflow | Class trainer; dual specialisation at 40 |
| Combat | Your Retail rotation and pull habits | Relearn your kit, threat and crowd control |
| Races/classes | Modern WoW roster | Nine announced classes, with Forever-specific combinations |
Understand the progression you are signing up for
Forever centres its adventure on the original world and a level-60 foundation. Approach it as a new character journey rather than another modern expansion progression track. New content is intended to keep developing this version of Azeroth.
Treat class knowledge as a head start, not a rotation
Your Retail keybinds and experience with a role can help, but the spells, talents and combat pacing are version-specific. Read your current spellbook and train abilities before assuming a modern rotation will work.
- Make room on your bars for crowd control and utility.
- Ask your group to agree a pull target and a crowd-control target.
- Practise one small pull before trying the larger pulls you may be comfortable with in Retail.
Learn the talent and trainer rules
Standard class talents begin at level 10. Blizzard describes the familiar point-based structure with a new 16-point milestone. Talent changes, including Legacy changes, require a class trainer in a major city; dual specialisation becomes available at level 40. Check current beta costs in the client instead of assuming instant free switching.
Respect the pace of a group
Blizzard’s stated combat direction puts threat, controlled pulls and class identity at the centre of dungeon play. Our preparation advice is to let the tank establish control, watch the healer’s resources, and use your utility when a pull goes wrong. This is not a Mythic+ route or a Retail encounter guide.
Choose from Forever’s roster
Forever’s announced roster has nine classes. Check its race/class table before planning a character; your favourite modern combination may not be available here. New combinations and Skyborne expand the choices without bringing the full modern roster into this game.
Discover account progression through Legacy
Legacy rewards participation across the Forever world. Account-wide points can support individual characters, with character-specific spending choices. See the Legacy guide before assuming account features work exactly like those in Retail.
