FOREVER CLASS FIELD GUIDE
The Mage, revisited.
Arcane, Fire and Frost keep the familiar magic identities. Compare current spell interactions, control and resource demands.
Returning-player checklist
- Read your current abilities and visit a trainer before planning around an old rotation.
- Choose a tree for the activity and role you enjoy. A levelling plan need not be a raid plan.
- Inspect prerequisite talents and point gates; unfamiliar combinations may be invalid.
- Review equipment stats in the current client rather than copying a Vanilla best-in-slot list.
What has changed?
Arcane, Fire and Frost remain mana-based trees, with new spell access and proc interactions to learn.
Earlier talent spell choices
The maintained spellbook lists Arcane Blast and Ice Lance as talent abilities available from level 20. Check the appropriate tree rather than assuming they are baseline.

Later spell and travel entries
Frostfire Bolt appears from level 40 and Teleport: Dalaran from level 50. Both are beyond the current level-30 beta cap.

Proc-driven talent interactions
Missile Barrage alters Arcane Missiles after a proc. Heating Up stacks a cast-time reduction for the next Pyroblast after eligible critical strikes.

How we compare versions
Official class articles describe changes from original WoW. The maintained comparison database uses Classic Era 1.15.9.70003, with Season of Discovery-era tuning, rather than an untouched Vanilla client. Database-only differences below are labelled accordingly. Abilities beyond level 30 are future planning, outside the current beta cap.
Get familiar with your trees
Arcane
Missile Barrage reduces channel duration and removes the mana cost of the next Arcane Missiles when its proc occurs. Read which spells can trigger it.
Fire
Heating Up uses eligible direct critical strikes and stacks up to three times. It is not a guarantee that every critical hit produces an instant Pyroblast.
Frost
Compare Ice Lance, Ice Block, Cold Snap and Ice Barrier. Their tree gates make defensive access part of your point-allocation decision.
Returning from Vanilla or Classic
Check where new spells enter the trees before rebuilding a familiar frost levelling plan. Spell ranks, mana and the defensive path still deserve deliberate choices.
Coming from Retail
Read the exact Forever proc text. Heating Up and Arcane Blast may sound familiar, but the current tree descriptions determine stacks, costs and triggers in this version.
Try this before your first group
- Inspect the point gate for Arcane Blast or Ice Lance.
- Read the eligible triggers for your chosen proc talent.
- Plan an escape before experimenting with a larger pull.
