FOREVER CLASS FIELD GUIDE
The Priest, revisited.
Discipline, Holy and Shadow support protection, healing and spell damage. Blizzard broadens access to important priest tools.
Returning-player checklist
- Read your current abilities and visit a trainer before planning around an old rotation.
- Choose a tree for the activity and role you enjoy. A levelling plan need not be a raid plan.
- Inspect prerequisite talents and point gates; unfamiliar combinations may be invalid.
- Review equipment stats in the current client rather than copying a Vanilla best-in-slot list.
What has changed?
Race-exclusive tools become broader, while healing, shields and Shadow receive new tree choices.
Less race-restricted utility
Fear Ward and Devouring Plague become available to every Priest at level 20. Divine Spirit becomes baseline at level 30.

Group healing and Shadow
Prayer of Healing affects the target's party and pets. Shadow Word: Death is a baseline level-32 addition, outside the current beta cap.

New healing milestones
Penance joins Discipline; Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending appear in Holy. Their positions matter when planning a levelling healer.

How we compare versions
Official class articles describe changes from original WoW. The maintained comparison database uses Classic Era 1.15.9.70003, with Season of Discovery-era tuning, rather than an untouched Vanilla client. Database-only differences below are labelled accordingly. Abilities beyond level 30 are future planning, outside the current beta cap.
Get familiar with your trees
Discipline
Soul Warding shortens Power Word: Shield's cooldown and reduces its mana cost. Penance can damage an enemy or heal an ally; it is a channel, not an instant heal.
Holy
Compare Binding Heal with your direct heals. Prayer of Mending is a deep-tree option and cannot be reached with the current level-30 beta point budget.
Shadow
Review Mind Flay, Vampiric Embrace and Shadowform. Do not assume the duration, mana behaviour or prerequisites match a remembered Vanilla build.
Returning from Vanilla or Classic
Choose a race after reading its current two Priest racial spells. Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are no longer reasons to assume that only one race can supply them.
Coming from Retail
Treat Forever Discipline as its own toolkit. Penance appearing in a tree does not establish Retail's complete healing model; inspect the current shields, spell ranks and mana costs.
Try this before your first group
- Train and bind Fear Ward at the appropriate level.
- Check which party Prayer of Healing will target.
- Test Penance on an ally and an enemy after unlocking it.
